More Gambit Success at Nottingham Congress

Mike Barnes and Peter Gorecka-Marshall were joint 1st in the open and u135 sections respectively, both scoring 4/5 but, while Peter was able to agree a quick draw with joint winner Steve Foster (Central cc) in the final round, Mike had to win a tough battle against Mark Whitehead (grade 170) who had played great chess all weekend, beating considerably higher graded players. Grandmaster Mark Hebden was soundly beaten by Nottinghamshire county champion Alex Posazennikhov in the final round enabling Mike to catch them on 4 points. Andrew Thompson won a grading prize in the u135 section.

As usual there was a large turnout from Gambit. Results:
Open: Mike Barnes 4, Steve Hunter 1.5
U165: Mike Naylor 3, Keith Roper 2, Drag Sudar 1.5, Graham Gibson 1
U135: Peter Gorecka-Marshall 4, Andrew Thompson 3.5, Rob Ensor 3, Mick Harper 2.5
U110: Ken Heath 2.5, Ronnie Watson 2
