2013-14 mid-season review

Gambit 1 started poorly in division 1 with just a draw from their 1st three matches but have won their last three and should finish in the top 3 as they have done in the past 7 seasons. Mike Barnes and John Swain remain unbeaten so far.

Newly promoted and heavily outgraded Gambit 2 in division 1 had a great start, beating Gambit 1 & WB 1, but have now lost 5 of their 7 matches, although some matches have been a lot tighter than the scores suggest. At least they have already beaten Ashfield 2’s 3 points from 2011-12 and WN 1’s 2 points from last season, and they might not even finish bottom as WB 1 seem determined to do that judging from their team selection policy. Marc Subira’s excellent form has continued with 3 wins and 3 draws from his 6 games on board 1.

Gambit 3 are 6th in division 2 but Long Eaton and Nomads 1 are far adrift so they should be safe this season. Richard Edwards is unbeaten so far.

Gambit 4 are division 4’s yo-yo team: WLWLWLW! They are also the only team in the league that has been unchanged in every match so far. Graham Gibson (grade 135) has been playing exceptionally well (w2, d4, l1) with a 162 performance against opponents with an average grade of 155.

Gambit 5 continue to battle in division 5, however promotion seems but a distant dream.
